Careers

The task for this really has me stumped. I have no definite idea of what I want to do. I know that Interiors is the area but there are so many different options within that!
I don't actually have a name for what i want to do so that is what is making this hard! I do remember that we had a lecture last year from a textiles designer called Sally Greaves-Lord, at the beginning of her career she basically designed conceptual interiors for Issey Miyake using a variety of things including her own fabrics.

These are just two of many of Sally's window installations. I remember her saying she had complete creative control over what she decided to place in these window displays. I like that idea.
I realise as well that this has brought me no closer to a decision.

Trade Shows 2

Printsource is another huge American trade show based in New York. It Focuses on the three main areas of surface design being fashion, gift and home.
It runs for two days, the 13th and 14th of January.
There are a lot companies that exhibit there and i have found some lovely new things:

This Designer's work is very diverse in terms of the products the prints are put on but overall there is a beautiful expressive quality to her work.

Trade Shows

-I first heard of Surtex on Print and Pattern earlier this year. The New York Trade show is pretty much the best in North America and is now in its 28th year. It does not specialise in just one area of surface design and you can find everything there. It runs for three days, 18th, 19th and 20th of May.

They also have a marketplace on the website for you to browse through and look at pretty things!
One brand I came across was NOYO Home, they had a product I have never seen before and i really loved how invented their prints were and also the fact that they were quite photography based.

Homes and Antiques

I was having a clean out of old magazines and came across the February issue of Homes and Antiques, which means one thing... kitsch valentines cards. Even though it's almost Christmas, these cards are still beautiful.

Bit of paper craft for good measure!

Selvedge; paper goods...

...Namely Claire Fletcher's paper goods. Her lovely, illustrative cards depict various idyllic scenes. They have the vintage quality that using watercolor brings and that I love.

Alice Pattullo

Whilst catching up on http://printpattern.blogspot.co.uk/ this weekend I saw a post about this designers work. Although her online portfolio, ( http://www.alicepattullo.com/ ), was full of really inspiring things I simply wanted to look at her gift products for this post.

My reason for choosing these two in particular was the grainy, vintage effect they have. I might be wrong but the top card looks to have details of lino print on it which really adds to the aesthetic.

Back on track!

Tonight is basically acting as my catch up session, things have been pretty hectic what with hand ins and all that so I've been neglecting my little blog... but i'm back now and plan never to leave again!

Hand in...

First things first here's just a few pictures of my work I submitted for hand in:

These three are probably the ones I am most proud of, just because they are done in a media that I had never touched on before and i feel they are quite life like.
